What inspired you to pursue a career in procurement?
I actually fell into procurement, but it quickly became clear that it was the right path for me. While working in the department, I discovered I really enjoyed the problem-solving, strategic thinking, and relationship-building aspects of the work. It clicked as a career because I could make a tangible impact while collaborating with others to find solutions.

What’s one fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I enjoy the behind-the-scenes details of planning – figuring out logistics is fun for me, and I enjoy seeing everything come together in the end.

What’s the most rewarding project or accomplishment in your career so far?
One of the most rewarding accomplishments in my career has been earning my professional procurement certifications over the course of my 20 years in the field. They reflect my commitment to continuous learning, staying current with best practices, and strengthening my ability to make a meaningful impact in every project and decision.

If you weren’t in procurement, what career would you pursue?
Before I came into local government, I was on a path in the medical field. Had I stayed on that original track, I would have continued pursuing medicine, inspired to contribute in a tangible, hands-on way.

How do you stay current with trends and best practices in procurement?
I stay current with trends and best practices in procurement by attending webinars, participating in professional associations, and exchanging ideas with colleagues. I find that there’s always something new to learn, and I enjoy learning from others’ experiences – it not only keeps me informed but also helps me continuously improve how I approach projects, bringing fresh insights and solutions.

What’s a hobby or activity that helps you unwind outside of work?
My favorite way to unwind outside of work is spending time with my family. Sharing moments, creating memories, and simply being together helps me recharge, stay grounded, and put things into perspective.

What advice would you give to someone new to the procurement field?
Don’t be afraid to speak up, get involved, and ask questions. Every project is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact. Engaging fully and seeking guidance when needed will help you develop your skills and confidence in the field.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you?
“Progress over perfection.” It’s a reminder that growth happens in the journey – not in waiting for the perfect moment. Every step forward, no matter how small, builds confidence, experience, and momentum.
